Myself and Peigi had the pleasure of being asked to photograph our cousin Catriona's wedding in Edinburgh. It was a fairly challenging job given that the Bride wanted as few formal or posed shots as possible, being more comfortable with more low key candid coverage of the event. I hope we pulled it off to her satisfaction in the end. We certainly kept a low profile and even when getting intentional portrait shots with the couple I let them move around at their own pace, kept myself moving and not plant myself in front of their faces with the camera for too long. The weather was rainy but that only served to provide for a moody backdrop and a lovely dark, cool contrast with the beautiful bride as she walked the historic cobbled streets between The Priory Church and Orocco Pier Hotel on the main street in South Queensferry.
So it was much more of a documentary/magazine type shoot with more realism and a subtler styling than the traditional wedding stint which suited me just fine. I was in my element just capturing the atmosphere and details of the day as it happened to get a set of photographs that were as much about the event and everyone involved as the wedding couple, which fits with their characters very much as well. Derek & Catriona are a lovely Christian couple, humble and giving and shy of self aggrandizement so I hope this set of photographs reflects the experience: the happiness of personal and family joy shared with friends and colleagues on their special day.
It was great to meet various relatives we hadn't met before including Catriona's sisters Donna, Fiona, Sandra & Joan and those I knew but hadn't seen in years - sisters Maryanne, Kate & Aileen - were a hoot just like I remember. Look out of the Bridesmaids' dresses which were all unique designs in Harris Tweed specially for the girls.

A couple have successfully sued their wedding photographer for his shoddy coverage of their big day. Anyone can point a camera at a happy couple, but what pitfalls do the professionals face?
The Days' happy day... but they were less than happy with the photosThe memorable shots from Marc and Sylvia Day's wedding are unusual, to say the least. Decapitated guests, a ceremony hardly visible through the gloom, and random close-ups of... not the bouquet, or a snatched kiss, but of carriage wheels.
The three-year-old bridesmaid - caught in one snap without her clothes on - could have done a better job.
The Days are so upset that they've taken their photographer to court for breach of contract over the £1,450 photo and video package.
But how hard can it be to get great shots at a happy occasion, where everyone is dressed up in picturesque locations? Most guests bring along their own cameras, after all.
Harder than it looks, says Paul Cudmore, a past winner of Wedding Photographer of the Year, who has been in the business for 18 years…

The final set of photos from Luke & Mim's reception at Gartmore House. I loved that they had totally thought about every aspect of the usual wedding trappings and thought about why, when and how it should be done and these guys weren't afraid of doing things with a twist. The wedding meal was a lovely cozy, relaxed affair with all the speeches and cake cutting stuff held over to be done in the dance hall where non-dinner guests coming in for the dance could enjoy them too. Mim's dad gave a great speech AND played his pipes followed by Luke's speech and gift-giving (with his lovely assistant Mim) while everyone stood round and the Best Men Johnny & Joe gave a very entertaining slideshow presentation on Luke before the wedding dance began. The wedding cake was actually tier upon tier of beautifully decorated cup cakes which were absolutely delish and trumped any traditional wedding cake I've ever had. Everyone do that for their wedding cakes from now on ok?

I had the great joy and privilege of being the official photographer for Mim & Luke's wedding day last Saturday. We were granted a window of fair weather for the afternoon amid a week of monsoon weather (thank you, Lord!) and I didn't make a complete hash of everything for which we also thank God :)
I wll hopefully have got through processing them all by next weekend but for now here is a selection from the wedding service at Kilmaronock Church and the photos of the happy couple at Gartmore House in the Trossachs National Park.
